Day 3: Sangla (2,600m) → Chitkul (3,450m) → Sangla
Today we will go on an excursion to Chitkul, which is famed as the ‘Last Village in India'. This will be one of the most scenic drives in Himachal Pradesh, and we will drive on the old Indo-Tibetan trade route. The roads become narrower, and the valleys seem to broaden at this point. You are driving literally on the edge of the road. The roads are cut out of the mountains, and naked rocks and huge boulders protrude from these. Driving on these roads is an adventure. Once you reach Chitkul, you can take a walk in the village and view the wooden houses. On the way back, you will visit Kamru Fort, which was built by the Pandavas in the Mahabharat times. This fort looks more like a tower than a fort. In olden days, the kings used it to store food and ammunition.

Our next destination is Chandratal Lake, which is recognized as one of the most beautiful lakes in Himachal Pradesh. Day 10: Keylong → Shinkula Pass → Baralacha Pass (4,890m) → Suraj Taal

Today you will have the unique opportunity to visit two high mountain passes - Baralacha La Pass and Shinkula Pass. These are high-altitude mountain passes with spectacular views and landscapes. We will begin early in the morning, so that we have enough time to visit both these mountain passes. Shinkula Pass is a more recently discovered pass, and Baralacha La is a favourite with most tourists. You can also visit Suraj Tal on the way to Baralacha La. This will be a dramatic excursion from Keylong, and one where you ascend to an altitude of 4890 meters again.

Day 11: Keylong to Udaipur and Triloknath
Today we will go on an exciting excursion from Keylong and visit two of the most sacred temples in the Lahaul Valley. The route that we will take today will lead us to Triloknath Temple. The temple is considered very holy, and both Hindus and Buddhists worship here. After this, we will visit Udaipur and reach Mrikula Devi Temple. Udaipur is another important town in the Lahaul Valley. Mrikula Devi Temple is a temple of Goddess Kali, who is worshipped here in the divine form of Mrikula Devi. This is a 12th-century temple with wooden construction and was believed to be built by the Pandavas. Landscape Shift: Green valley → Snow-covered high-altitude wilderness

Best Places to Acclimatize on the Lahaul Spiti Road Trip
In this Lahaul Spiti tour, you can acclimatize in many places. Acclimatization is a gradual process, and it is a wrong assumption that it should be done only once. In this process, you allow your body to rest and adapt itself to the decrease in oxygen levels at high altitudes. We have designed the Lahaul Spiti from Shimla tour in such a way that you get multiple places and stopovers in which you can acclimatize your body.
Narkanda (2,700m) – Your First Step into Altitude
Narkanda is where you can first start to acclimatize. Here you will get a cool climate and green surroundings. This is where your body will first adjust to the thin air. Narkanda will introduce the process of acclimatization. It is perfect for resting and hydrating yourself.
Sangla Valley (2,600m) – Stabilizing Your Body
Sangla Valley is more or less at the same altitude as that of Narkanda, but it is more rugged and mountainous. You can acclimatize at Sangla Valley without worrying about a sudden jump in altitude. Moreover, Sangla Valley is best for exploration and light activities.
Kalpa (2,960m) – Preparing for High Altitude
The altitude increases slowly at Kalpa at 3000 meters, and acclimatization becomes more essential at this point of the Lahaul Spiti tour package. At this altitude, oxygen levels begin to drop, and you can feel its symptoms too, like breathlessness. Kalpa is very important from the acclimatization perspective as it is the closest stopover before you enter the Spiti Valley.
Tabo (3,280m) – Entering High Altitude Zone
You have now entered the high altitude territory of Spiti Valley. Tabo is located at 3280 meters, and at this height, you will experience dry air and low oxygen content in the air. You should keep your activities light and allow the body to adjust to the altitude. You may experience some fatigue and a mild headache.
Kaza (3,800m) – Your Main Acclimatization Base
The stay at Kaza will give you enough time to acclimatize. Kaza is located at approximately 4000 meters. It is also necessary, as you will go on excursions to the high altitude villages near Kaza.
High-Altitude Excursions (4,000m+) – Only After Acclimatization
After you have acclimatized at Kaza, you are prepared to go on excursions to nearby places like Langza (4,280m), Komic (4,560m), Kunzum Pass (4,500m), and Chandratal Lake (4,200m). This will be a better way for acclimatization as you are gradually increasing the altitude gain instead of a rapid rise in altitude.
Keylong (3,080m) – Recovery Phase
You have now braved the high altitudes of Spiti Valley. Now it is time to come down and descend. At Keylong, you have entered the Lahaul Valley. The body will start to recover, and oxygen levels will start to improve. It will result in less fatigue, and you will feel energized.
